　断層撮影 (トモグラフィ) は古くから存在する技術だが，さらに工夫を加えて，身体の周りを管球が1回転することで断層像を得る手法 (廻転撮影法) がかつて日本人により発案された¹⁾．これがCTの原理へとつながった．
